Our guide to selecting the best men’s yoga clothes.

As more men jump onto the yoga mat, a common question comes up: “What clothes should men wear for yoga?”. With a sea of options out there, choosing the right yoga gear can feel a bit daunting. But fear not! At Warrior Addict, we specialise in men’s yoga clothes and know that the right items that can really elevate your practice.

First, let’s hear form the experts themselves the male yogis:

@calebjudepackham - 100k followers on the gram – teacher of Sattva yoga and all-round awesome guy

“As a yoga teacher, it’s important to have the right yoga clothes so that your focus stays entirely in the mat and your mind. I look for light-weight clothes that can wick sweat off easily and I like tops that are slightly fitted so that they move with you and don’t flop over your head when you do inversions. I absolutely love Warrior Addict’s ‘Inversion Tech’ range for this” Caleb

So here are our top tips for what men should wear for Yoga -

1. The best men’s yoga pants:

Comfort is king! Yoga involves everything from gentle stretches to very dynamic postures, so your clothing should feel like a second skin (ideally with a 4-way stretch)

Look for men's yog pantsmade from soft, lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton blends or lyocell (a fabric derived from wood pulp). Heavy fabrics or clothes that cling like a bad date? No thanks! Instead, opt for items that let you move freely.

Other things to watch out for when deciding upon men's yoga trousers are bulky cords and zippers etc, i.e. anything that would get in the way of your practice and make you feel uncomfortable, so opt for men’s yoga pants that has smaller (thinner) or no cords and pockets that don’t get in way.

With all the above in mind, we have three options available for you:

.

1. Anti-Gravity Men’s Yoga Pants - £80

Warrior addict's ‘Anti-Gravity’ Men’s Yoga Pants have been exclusively designed for your yoga practice. The base layer (leggings) is made from a super-soft fabric that is naturally sweat-wicking and anti-microbial with a four way stretch that moves comfortably with your body. The top layer has been made from a special, lightweight Dri-Relese fabric that gets rid of any sweat super quickly. In total they have been made with 95% sustainable materials.

2. Eco Warrior Sweats - Grey - £80

These grey men’s yoga pants are suitable for lower intensity yoga such as Hatha or for simply chilling around your pad. They are made from a brushed, GOTS certified, organic cotton which is super soft and comfy. We have even popped a small zipper in one of the pockets for your credit card and keys etc.

2. Eco Warrior Sweats - Blue - £80

They are made from a brushed, GOTS certified, organic cotton which is super soft and comfy. We have even popped a small zipper in one of the pockets for your credit card and keys etc.

3. The best men’s yoga shorts

Though you might not be auditioning for a superhero movie, yoga does involve a lot of body movement and the best men’s yoga clothing needs to ensure that you are not restricted in anyway.

In our opinion there are two options for men’s yoga shorts:

1. Looser men's yoga shorts –

If your preference is for movement without feeling compressed or body conscious then choosing, comfortable and looser fitting shorts would be deal, if they do not have a base layer then a medium weight fabric with a 4 – way stretch would be ideal for less strenuous yoga such as Yin or Hatha. We would recommend a very light weight and sweat wicking fabric for ashtanga or hot yoga – in fact something similar to the fabric that you see in swimming trunks.

2. Fitted men's yoga shorts –

So these men's yoga shorts may come in the form of Lycra shorts or short with a fitted base layer. Fitted men’s yoga shorts have a benefit because they stay in place and move with you like a second skin, if you chose a fabric with a Tencel mix then they will also be sweat wicking and cooling at the same time.

Our men’s yoga shorts combine the benefits of both fitted and lose yoga shorts as they come with a base layer and a very lightweight outer fabric. They move with you, whether you’re mastering that crow pose or just trying not to fall over.

.

2. The best men’s yoga tops

There are two problems when it comes to men’s yoga tops:

1. Too much sweat - let’s be real, yoga can get sweaty, especially in classes like Bikram or Hot Yoga.

2. Tops that ride up to reveal that ‘getting’ toned midriff.

So ideally you need to find a men’s yoga top that solves both of these issues. For the stinky/ sweat problem, we recommend selecting men’s yoga tops that have a sweat-wicking & anti-stink fabric and that are light-weight with a 4-way -stretch.

For the second problem i.e. yoga tops that don’t ride up, we recommend selecting a men’s yoga top that is quite fitted or has a hidden loop – like our Men’s Performance Tanks & Tees or has an attached front or back flap to tuck in, like our A-Symmetry T-Shirts, or to solve both of these problems at once, we would like to introduce you to our Men’s Tanks With Inversion Tech - a trademarked mechanism that guarantees that your top won’t ride up!

So, there you have it our guide to what men should wear for yoga. Just to summarise – for those with little free time and short attention spans – like us 😁 here is a quick re-cap of what you should be looking for in men’s yoga clothes:

  • Light weight – sweat -wicking fabrics are a must.
  • Fabrics with a four-way stretch are a must.
  • Yoga clothes that move with you.
  • Yoga clothes with little distractions i.e. no cords or thin cords or small pockets that are not bulky.
  • Yoga tops that don't ride up, so either tighter fitting yoga tops or if they are loser fitting, ideally they should have a small loop inside them to tie to your cords or as Warrior Addict have done brought out a special inversion tech top that does not ride up.
