We are very conscious of the environmental impact of the apparel industry with its use of harmful pesticides, chemicals, excessive use of water & energy and the disposal of clothes in landfills of which 10.5 million tons are dumped per annum in the US alone! Becoming a truly sustainable fashion brand is one of our main goals, admittedly, this is not an easy one, but we are really committed to making this happen.
Below are a few things that we are doing to ensure that we are on the right path
1. SUSTAINABLE FABRICS
Lyocell- Made from wood pulp.
We are using a yarn called Lyocell, an amazing eco-friendly fabric that represents a milestone in the development of environmentally-sustainable textiles. Lyocell is a natural, man-made fibre, made with wood pulp from sustainable tree farms. The process is award-winning and closed-loop, which recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. It is 100% biodegradable and extremely comfortable.
Organic cotton – Free from pesticides
All of our cotton yarns are organic, meaning that harmful pesticides are not used on the cotton buds and also keeps the cotton pickers healthy and happy. We understand that cotton is not 100% eco-friendly due to the amount of water used to turn the fibers into cellulose, however, it’s a natural fabric that is bio-degradable and is an excellent fit when combined with our other yarns.
Recycled Polyetser – Made from recycled plastic water bottles!
Our inversion shorts are made from Lyocell and recycled polyester (PET )made from recycled plastic bottles. The energy needed to make PET is less than it takes to make traditional polyester and it also keeps plastic bottles out of landfills.
2. PACKAGING
Our products will be sent to you in specially designed hessian envelopes which you can re-use for anything you like. We like to use them as document holders and have even tried growing tomatoes in them! You can send the products back to us using the same envelope and the distribution centre can then re-use them for other customers.
3. OUR FACTORIES
Our garments are manufactured in a family-run mill in Portugal, which we have visited many times. The working conditions are exceptional - there is even an organic veggie plot used to make organic vegetable soup for their employees.
4. TRIMS
Our zips are made from a trade-marked material that is made from recycled waste. The zips are also recyclable.
5. LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT
Our fabric supplier, garment and bag manufacturer are within a few kilometers from one another, so our carbon footprint in terms of our production cycle is very low.
6. ANTI- FAST FASHION
For the time being, we do not intend developing a new collection every season. Our goal is to produce yoga and activewear clothes that are well made from quality fabrics and are therefore designed to last. Whilst we love street style and use this as our inspiration, we will tease out any /unnecessary fashion whims to bring you long-lasting street style.
If you know of any eco-friendly fabrics, materials, or processes that you think we should be aware of then please do not hesitate to contact us yourideas@warrioradict.com. We always look forward to hearing from you.
