Q&A with Daniel Heil
Where are you from originally and where do you live now?I life in Düsseldorf/Germany but was born and raised close to Frankfurt/Germany.
Please tell us about your story and why you do what you do.I turned into the yoga practice to help calm my mind in stressful situations. Through my former profession in the marketing department of international fashion companies and my passion for travelling, I found a lot of opportunities to try and discover different yoga styles and traditions all over Europe, the US and Asia. My journey started with the Ashtanga yoga method, whose discipline and focus on alignment are still major components and the roots of my personal practice and my teaching. For me,yoga is primarily a practice intended to make someone wiser, and able to understand who you are. It teaches us to love ourselves and one another, accept without judgement and appreciate life. I believe that by unlocking the body and the mind through a regular practice everything else in life becomes more aligned and we are able to unfold into our truest selves. As a teacher, my goal is to guide my students to their own feeling of greatness and hopefully inspire them as they inspire me. I teach yoga from a place of compassion and my classes have a playful yet grounding nature as I aim to enrich my students mentally, physically, and emotionally. I love to help others recognize the power of their personal potential by providing tools to establish a deeper connection with their physical and energetic bodies.
How do you look after your physical and mental health ?Movement every day! I practice yoga and/or work out daily. If I feel tired and sore, I go for a gentler yoga practice and restorative way of movement. This enriches both, my physical and mental health. Furthermore, the meditation and pranayama practice become more and more part of my practice.
Tell us one of your life hacks.Very simple: Always speak the truth (or nothing at all)! It makes all relationships much easier.
